The Escondido Police Athletic League (PAL) is hosting two fundraising basketball games on Saturday, August 27 at Calvin Christian High School, 2000 N. Broadway, Escondido. The event kicks off at 3:30 p.m. with police and fire displays. A junior varsity game begins at 4 p.m., followed by a varsity game at 5:30 p.m. The games pit police officers, firefighters, and other city employees against teams of local youth. There will be one-minute entertainment timeouts during the varsity game and a police K-9 demonstration at halftime. There will be great raffle prizes and silent auction items, including gift cards from local restaurants and businesses, and autographed NFL Sports Memorabilia.

All proceeds support PAL, an after-school athletic and education program for Escondido children and teens. There are currently over 300 youths participating in soccer, basketball and self-defense/safety awareness training programs.

Tickets are $5 and are available at the Escondido Police and Fire Headquarters, 1163 N. Centre City Parkway. If you wish to support PAL programs, but are unable to attend the game, you can still purchase tickets which will be donated to local children. PAL is also looking for sponsors for the event. Contact: Sgt. Al Owens at aowens@escondido.org for details.

The PAL Mission Statement is: “To improve the quality of life for the youth in the community of Escondido by building their confidence and steering them away from alcohol, drugs and gangs.”
