Once activated, each intersection will have a 30-day warning period during which motorists who are photographed running a red light will receive a warning notice. After the initial 30-day warning period, motorists photographed running a red light will be issued and mailed a citation. Each citation carries a penalty and will be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle within 15 days of the violation. The citation will include four photographs of the vehicle:
-
One photograph will show the position of the vehicle and the front license plate prior to entering the intersection.
-
One photograph will show the position of the vehicle and the rear license plate as the vehicle traverses the intersection.
-
One photograph will show the progression of the vehicle through the intersection while the light is still red.
-
One photograph will show a close-up image of the driver's face.
The registered owner/driver may request an appointment to view the photographs by calling the Escondido Police Department at 760-839-4451. If the registered owner was not the driver at the time of the violation, he/she can identify the driver of the vehicle and the citation will be re-issued. If the registered owner of the vehicle was the driver at the time of the violation, the matter will be referred to the court for adjudication.
Failure to pay the fine or appear in court will result in an additional fine against the identified driver.
