FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONTACT: Lt. T. Albergo, 760-839-4901

In a continuing effort to promote traffic safety within the City of Escondido, the Police Department has instituted a new facet of vehicle enforcement. Two members of the Escondido Police Department’s Traffic Bureau recently were trained by the California Highway Patrol in the area of commercial vehicle rules and regulations. Escondido has many commercial vehicles traversing our city streets, and the goal of the new program is enhanced safety and insured compliance with commercial vehicle maintenance and operational regulations. Equipment to conduct the vehicle inspections, including a Ford F250, was purchased with funds forfeited by drug traffickers during their prosecution.

The new program will focus on mechanical and safety violations (load, weight, height and cargo securement). They will also review logbooks and commercial license status.
