FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Point of Contact:  Lieutenant Neal Griffin, 760-839-4700

The Escondido Gang Reduction, Intervention and Prevention Taskforce (EGRIP), in collaboration with, Escondido Police Department, EUSD CARE Youth project, Helping Hands Jr., The Crossing Housing Complex, and Escondido Education COMPACT are proud to host the first annual “Join Hands Day” on Saturday, May 4th from 1:00-4:00pm on Mission Grove Place, Escondido.

This free community event will be filled with fun activities all day.  In celebration of National Youth Service Day, the event will begin with a community service project, where both adults and youth will work together to clean-up Mission Avenue from Fig to Ash. The cleanup provides an opportunity for youth and adults to take pride in their neighborhood, by making it cleaner and more attractive for all residents. To participate, please meet at the Information Booth at 1:00pm.

Following the community service project, there will be “Talk Back the Park” ceremony at Grove Park where youth and their parents can state the need for peace in their community and unity in their quest for a better tomorrow.  There will be a special Unity Walk back to Mission Grove Place, after the ceremony.

There will be a Resource Fair featuring local organizations that support and provide services for both youth and adults.  There will be lots of fun games and activities for the whole family and a free barbecue for all in attendance.

Mission Grove Place will be closed to thru traffic from Mission Avenue to provide a true neighborhood/block-party event.  Come join the fun.
