Nationally, crime statistics come from the Uniform Crime Reporting Program (UCR) of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). Most current crime statistics come from the FBI's Uniform Crime Report (UCR) and are based on reports to the police from victims of crime. In this report, the FBI maintains data on Part I crimes, which are as follows: murder, rape, robbery, arson, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny/theft, and auto vehicle theft.

Additional crime statistic information can be found online by going to the SANDAG Criminal Justice Research Division.
