On 04.07.12, at about 7:30 PM, Viridiana Rodriguez was shot by Ruben Cepeda while in her apartment. She was about five months pregnant and she, as well as her unborn child, died as a result of her being shot. Detectives obtained a $1M Double-Murder Arrest Warrant for Cepeda, and he is still on-the- run.
Detectives have been working this case and following up leads since the night of the double-murder. In the past weeks, detectives developed information that Cepeda had received help to evade capture on the night of the double-murder by Jesse Lopez (09.25.89- resident of Poway). Lopez was in the apartment when Cepeda shot Rodriquez and drove Cepeda away moments after the shooting.
On 04.24.12, detectives located Lopez and arrested him for being an accessory to the double-murder of Rodriquez and her unborn baby. Lopez was booked into Vista Jail on two counts of §PC 32.
The search for Cepeda continues. EPD continues to receive the help of US Marshal’s Office and San Diego County Sheriff to locate and apprehend Cepeda.
EPD is hoping that Cepeda will understand that he has an option of turning himself in to any law enforcement. EPD wants anyone who is aiding, assisting, or harboring him to avoid capture to know that they could be subject to arrest and could face consequences just like Lopez.
EPD could still use the help of the community. If anyone sees Cepeda, call 911 immediately. Do not approach him. EPD considers him to be armed and to be a clear and present danger to the community.
