FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact: Lt. T. Albergo

On December 17, 2010, the Escondido Police Department planned to conduct a DUI Sobriety / Drivers License Checkpoint like many other agencies across the State. Today marked the beginning of the Winter Mobilization effort against DUI. This event was funded through the California Office of Traffic Safety, Berkeley’s School of Education and SafeTREC. Due to inclement weather, State approval was granted to all agencies to conduct Saturation Patrols instead of checkpoints. The following are results of the event:

  • 4 field sobriety tests were administered
  • 3 drivers were arrested for DUI, one of those was a felony because he had three prior DUI’s
  • 1 driver was arrested for driving on a suspended license, and being in possession of drug
  • paraphernalia
  • 7 vehicles were impounded, 2 drivers had a suspended drivers license and 4 drivers did not
  • have a drivers license
  • 28 citations were issued during this sweep.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Officer of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
