May is National Youth Traffic Safety Month. Prom and High School graduation are both coming up fast. In an effort to keep our youth and graduates safe this year, the Escondido Union High School District and the Escondido Police Department have partnered to prevent senseless traffic tragedies.
The end of the school year is upon us and there are too many incidents of graduates involved in alcohol related and distracted driving tragedies. Each of these crashes is caused by avoidable behavior. Distracted driving takes many forms, and is one of the most serious violations that can cause an accident. Substance and alcohol use while driving is another major concern during graduation and Prom week.
Accordingly, the Police Department will have a number of operations during this month, and especially during graduation week. They include DUI / DL checkpoints, a number of saturation patrols for distracted and intoxicated drivers, and operations focusing on minors purchasing alcohol.
Chief Moles emphasizes traffic safety as a priority for our department. Our goal is to have a safe and sober graduation for all.
