As part of the Escondido Police Department’s on-going traffic safety and enforcement efforts, officers from around San Diego County joined the Department today in stepped up traffic enforcement in Escondido. The operation, known as “County-Wide Integrated Traffic Enforcement” or “C.I.T.E.” is a multi-agency effort aimed at zero tolerance traffic enforcement. During the operation, officers issues 282 citations and impounded 23 vehicles in a span of four hours. Of the 282 citations issued, 54 were for cell phone use and 27 were for driver’s license violations. The remaining citations were for various vehicle code violations. Three drivers were detained for lack of identification. The three individuals were found to be in the country illegally and had prior criminal records. Two had prior arrests for DUI and narcotics violations while the third was a prior felony deport. All three were released into the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
