On Tuesday, June 14, 2011, the Escondido Police Department launched official Facebook and Twitter accounts. The accounts have been established to provide current information to the community regarding breaking news, events occurring within the police department and community outreach efforts.
The Facebook account will have various types of information that the public may find interesting. Upcoming events, news articles, interesting stories and community outreach efforts will all be highlighted on the Facebook page. The page is identified as “Escondido Police Department” and can be accessed by establishing a free account at www.facebook.com.
The Twitter account will be used as means of broadcasting press releases in real time to the media and general public. Press releases will be placed on the department’s website under news releases and will be immediately linked to the Twitter account. Anyone following the Twitter account will be notified of the newly posted press release. Twitter will become the method in which all parties are notified of press releases. The Twitter page is identified as “Escondido_PD” You can follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/Escondido_PD. There is no charge to establish a Twitter account.
Police Chief Jim Maher said, “I am excited because these pages allow us to share information about your Police Department as well as keeping you up to date about significant events that will be of interest to you. It is my hope that through this effort, you will be better informed about your Police Department and community.”
