On the afternoon of January 16th, 2014, the Escondido Police Department received several notifications of a suspicious message that had been posted on a social media site. The message contained specific language of acts of violence that would be committed at Escondido Charter High School at 10:30 AM, January 17th. The Police Department deemed this threat to be a credible threat of violence and immediately notified the staff of Escondido Charter High School. After being informed of these circumstances, the Executive Director of Charter High School and the Escondido Police Department determined the safest course of action was to cancel all school activities for January 17th.
Although the specific time of the threat has passed, the Escondido Police Department continues to actively investigate this incident. Currently no arrests have been made.
A press briefing will be held at the Escondido Police and Fire Headquarters at 3:00 PM, today.
