On 7-29-2012 at approximately 1:30 AM, Escondido Police and Fire units were dispatched to the area of Lincoln Avenue and Beech St.  regarding an injury traffic collision. Upon their arrival, they found that a 67 year old male pedestrian had been stuck by a vehicle as he was crossing Lincoln Avenue with family members. The initial injury seemed to be only a fractured arm. The driver of the vehicle did not stop to give aid. Witnesses described the vehicle as either a white SUV or a grey pickup with a camper shell.

The pedestrian, identified as Carlos Gomez Pantoja of Escondido, was transported to a local hospital. A few hours later, Escondido Police were notified that Mr. Pantoja passed away from injuries sustained in the incident. The Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the vehicle involved and any driver or occupant information.
