On February 25, 2012, at about 11:40 PM, the Escondido Police Department Communications Division received an emergency call reference a stabbing that had occurred in the 700 Block of North Rose Street in Escondido. Officers arrived on scene within two minutes and found a male subject laying in the driveway with an apparent stab wound to the chest. Lifesaving measures were initiated by police officers until fire department personnel arrived. Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, the subject was pronounced dead at the scene.
At about 11:44 PM, the Communications Division was notified that a second stabbing victim had arrived at Palomar Hospital. The second victim’s injuries appear to be non-life threatening. Witnesses stated that the second victim was also stabbed at the same location as the homicide.
Detectives from the Escondido Police Department’s Crimes of Violence Unit were called to the scene to investigate this incident. Detectives have interviewed several potential witnesses and forensic technicians have processed the crime scene for evidence. Based on statements provided to detectives and physical evidence, it appears that a fight broke out during a party and the two victims were stabbed during the disturbance. The motive for the fight has not been determined.
At this point, the identities of the victims are being withheld pending notification of family members.
Witnesses at the scene were not able to provide any suspect or vehicle description.
