FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact: Lt. Chris Wynn, 760-839-4700

On February 15, 2011, at approximately 1952 hours, the Escondido Police Department Communications Center received multiple calls regarding two subjects fighting in an apartment complex parking lot in the 900 Block of East Washington Avenue. Patrol officers arrived on scene within 3 minutes and made contact with witnesses and the victims.

Patrol officers located two men laying on the ground.  One of the subjects was in the parking lot and the other was on a walkway inside of an apartment complex breezeway.  Both men were in and out of consciousness and could not provide details as to what happened.  One of the men was transported to Palomar Medical Center with multiple stab wounds to the torso and the other was airlifted to Sharp Memorial Hospital with multiple stab wounds to the torso and right arm.

Based on witness statements and physical evidence collected at the scene, it appears that the fight started in an apartment and moved out into the parking lot of one apartment complex and then into the parking lot of another apartment complex. The facts surrounding the altercation are still being investigated by Escondido Police Department detectives.

On 02-18-11, the Escondido Police Department was notified by the Palomar Medical Center that the stabbing victim that had been transported to the Palomar Medical Center had died as a result of his injuries. The name of the decedent is being withheld at this time pending notification of his family.

Anyone with any information related to this case is requested to call Detective Don Tulimero at 760-839-4776. All press inquiries should be sent via email to Lt. Chris Wynn at cwynn@escondido.org.
