SuspectFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONTACT: Media Relations, (760) 839-4444

On July 16, 2012, at approximately 4:49 PM, the Escondido Police Department Communications Division received an emergency call reference a bank robbery that had just occurred.  The robbery took place at the U.S. Bank located in the 2300 Block of East Valley Parkway in Escondido.  Officers arrived on scene and made contact with multiple victims and witnesses.

Based on statements from the victims and witnesses it appears that 3 black males arrived at the bank driving a 1989 Toyota 4-door vehicle.  The driver parked the vehicle in front of the bank and the other two suspects exited the vehicle and entered the bank wearing ski masks and gloves.  Both suspects were carrying semi-automatic handguns.  The suspects ordered all of the people inside of the bank to the floor and one of the suspects proceeded to jump over the counter and begin robbing several of the tellers.  During the robbery, no shots were fired and none of the victims or witnesses were injured.  The amount of money taken has not been determined.

The two suspects exited the bank and re-entered the waiting vehicle.  All suspects left in the vehicle.  The vehicle was located abandoned a short time later about one block south of the bank.  When the vehicle was recovered, it was determined that it had been stolen earlier in the day.  It is unknown if the suspects left in another vehicle or left on foot.

The Escondido Police Department is conducting a joint investigation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact Detective John Myers of the Escondido Police Department Crimes of Violence Unit at (760) 839-4782.

This will be the only information available tonight.
