FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.  CONTACT:  OFFICER TOM VENABLE @ 760.839.4483

PREPARED BY:  SGT. ERIC SKAJA

On June 9th, at about 8:10 PM, the Escondido Police Department received a report of a man who was hit by a car in the 1800 block of N. Nutmeg St.  Officers arrived minutes later to find a 70 year-old male down in the roadway.  The man had been struck by a full-sized white van.

The Fire Department responded and took the man to a local area hospital.  He has been diagnosed with significant head trauma and his condition is considered life threatening.  The driver of the van was not injured and was the solo occupant.  At this time, alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

The investigation has shown the van was heading south on Nutmeg when he struck the man.  The man was crossing the street mid- block from west to east and not in a crosswalk.

This investigation is being conducted by Officer Venable of the Traffic Division.  EPD could not locate any witnesses and is looking for the community’s help to find out more details of the collision.  It is possible that someone has called for help and did not speak with officers at the scene.  Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to call Officer Venable at the above phone number.
