At about 10:43 hrs, the Escondido Police Department was notified of a robbery alarm activation from the Check N Go located at 649 West Mission Avenue. Officers arrived in about four minutes. Employees of the business confirmed that a robbery had occurred but said the suspect had fled. An employee of the store said that a man had entered the store, claimed he had a gun and demanded cash. The employee handed over an undisclosed amount of money and the suspect fled the scene. The suspect was described as a black male adult, approximately 6' 00" tall, 245 pounds and very unkempt. While conducting the investigation, a witness approached the officers and reported that he may have a digital recording of the suspect. The officers viewed the recording and determined that it was in fact the suspect fleeing in a vehicle. A license plate number was obtained from the digital recording which led officers to an apartment complex in Vista. Plainclothes officers conducted a surveillance of the apartment complex assisted by Deputies of the San Diego Sheriff Vista sub-station. When the suspect vehicle arrived, a Sheriff’s patrol unit was sent into the area. An attempt was made to stop the vehicle which was being driven by a suspect matching the description given by the victim. The suspect refused to stop and fled in the car. A short pursuit ended when the suspect crashed in the area of Bobier and South Santa Fe. Evidence to include cash and items of clothing were recovered from the vehicle. The suspect is identified as Torrance Williams, 36 of Vista, CA. Williams was arrested and charged with robbery, felony evading and other related offenses.
