FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONTACT : Officer Garcia; 760-839-4729

At about 12 noon today, members of the Escondido Police and Fire Department responded to a serious injury collision on Escondido Blvd. south of Sunset.  First responders found that a 28 year old male motorcyclist was travelling south on Escondido Blvd. and collided with a vehicle that was exiting a private parking lot at 2035 S. Escondido Blvd.  The rider attempted to avoid the collision, but struck the car. The motorcycle rider was thrown to the pavement, striking his head. Unfortunately he was wearing a “novelty helmet” and not a DOT approved helmet. He sustained serious injuries to his head, several broken bones, and was taken to a local hospital. It is undetermined whether drugs or alcohol played a part in this collision.  Witnesses did tell responding officers that the motorcyclist was travelling very fast. Officers from the Department’s Traffic Bureau will be investigating the cause of the collision. Officer Garcia is the lead investigator. Witnesses can reach him at 839-4729.
