FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact:  Traffic Division, 760.839.4728

On Saturday, September 08, 2012 at 0827 hours, the Escondido Police Department Communications Division received a call of a three-vehicle, injury traffic collision at the intersection of Redwood St. and Felicita Avenue.

Patrol units arrived and determined a vehicle, which had been stopped for the stop sign for northbound Redwood St., left the stop sign and was struck broadside by a vehicle travelling eastbound on Felicita Avenue.  The initial collision caused the northbound vehicle to be thrown into the westbound lane of Felicita Avenue where it was struck by a westbound vehicle.  The driver of the first vehicle was determined to be non-restrained and was found on the ground, outside of her vehicle by the responding officers; she was most likely ejected from the vehicle during the collision.

The driver of the first vehicle is a 79 year-old female, resident of Escondido, and was the sole occupant of her vehicle.  She was taken to Palomar Medical Center where she is being treated for her injuries.  Her condition was listed as critical at this time.  The driver and sole occupant of the eastbound vehicle was transported to Palomar Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.  The driver and passenger of the westbound vehicle were transported to Palomar Medical Center and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the collision is under investigation at this time.  Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact Officer Nick Kluka at 760-839-4728.
