On July 12, 2014 at about 10:07am, the Escondido Police Department received a report of a collision involving a pick-up truck and a big rig pulling a flat-bed trailer at the intersection of Valley Pkwy and Home Depot Center.  Responding officers arrived to find both vehicles in the #3 westbound lane of Valley Pkwy west of Home Depot Center.

The driver of the pick-up truck, Escondido resident Shervin Bahadori, had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Escondido Fire Department.  Bahadori was transported to Palomar Hospital with significant injuries.  The big rig driver, Escondido resident Omero Garcia, and his juvenile passenger, were not injured.

The collision caused large amounts of vehicle fluids to run into the storm drain, resulting in The San Diego County Hazardous Materials Team and City of Escondido Public Works to respond for clean-up.  The spill is considered minor.

Preliminary investigation indicates the pick-up truck made a left-hand turn eastbound onto Valley Pkwy from Home Depot Center against a red light.  The big rig was traveling westbound in the #3 lane of Valley Pkwy with a green light and was unable to avoid a collision with the pick-up.  Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this collision.

This investigation is ongoing at this time and is being conducted by Officer Stephen Braucht of the Traffic Division. Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to call Officer Braucht at the above phone number.
