On Sunday morning, April 24, 2011, The Escondido Police Department issued a press release regarding the results of a sobriety / DL checkpoint held earlier. It was stated that a driver was determined to be unlicensed and in the country illegally. That driver, 30-year-old Salvador Cruz Aguilar, was released with a citation because it could not be determined if he had a criminal history. Information obtained after his release revealed that Aguilar, who resided in Escondido, was actually a wanted felon. He had a prior offense for committing residential burglary in Texas.
Escondido Police arrested Aguilar this morning, April 25, 2011, based on the new information. Arrangements are being made for his extradition. An immigration hold will also be placed on Aguilar.
