ESCONDIDO POLICE CONDUCTS SHOULDER TAP OPERATION

On 5/31/2021, the Escondido Police Department conducted a Shoulder Tap Operation.  Shoulder Tap Operations are when minors (persons under the age of 21) stand outside stores that sell alcohol and ask adults to buy them alcohol.  These types of operations are part of a program utilized by ABC and local law enforcement agencies used to detect and deter shoulder tap activity.  State law prohibits the furnishing of alcohol to a minor, which is a misdemeanor violation of Business & Professions Code 25658(a).  The following results are from Monday’s operation:

  • 3          ABC licensed locations visited
  • 18        Contacts where minors approached adults asking to buy alcohol
  • 2          Adults furnished alcohol to minors and were cited for B&P 25658(a)
  • 1          Adult was arrested for an unrelated arrest warrant

This project is part of the Department of Alcohol Beverage Control’s Minor Decoy/Shoulder Tap Grant Project, funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Safety Administration.
