On January 27, 2012, at approximately 4:40 p.m., Escondido police officers responded to the 300 Block of North Juniper Street reference reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a 15 year-old male victim lying on the east sidewalk of North Juniper Street where he had been shot multiple times. Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital. He is currently listed in guarded condition.
The preliminary investigation has revealed the victim was on or near a bicycle when a silver, possibly four door, vehicle pulled alongside him. A male exited the vehicle, approached the victim and shot him several times. The shooter re-entered the vehicle and the vehicle was last seen driving northbound on Juniper Street. The shooter is described as a Hispanic male in his early 20’s with slicked back hair. He was wearing a black T-shirt and black pants. At this time, the suspect is still outstanding.
The victim has been identified, but his name is not being released. It has not been determined what precipitated the shooting. Detectives and forensic specialists have processed the scene for evidence and have interviewed known witnesses.
This investigation is ongoing. At this time, there is no additional information available for release.
