On February 8, 2012, at about 8:15 PM, a woman came to the Escondido Police and Fire Headquarters to report that she was a victim of threats of domestic violence and restraining order violations by her ex-boyfriend, Sergio Lopez.

Officers and detectives took the woman’s statement and began to investigate her allegations.  They spent several hours working leads and trying to locate where Lopez could be.

At about 12:30 AM this morning, officers were at 1380 Oak Hill Drive – a mobile home park- trying to find Lopez.   They spotted him and tried to make contact.  Lopez fled.

While trying to run away from the officers, Lopez pulled out a handgun and fired two shots at the officers who were chasing him.  Lopez missed and continued to run. No officers fired their weapons.

The officers lost Lopez in the park and began to coordinate a perimeter to contain him.  Additional officers arrived and surrounded the park.  They also began to search for Lopez.

At about 1:30 AM, it became evident that more resources were needed to capture Lopez.  EPD activated SWAT and Emergency Negotiations Teams for assistance.

After several hours of searching, the Escondido Police Department incident commander contacted the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and Carlsbad Police Department to request assistance from their agencies with SWAT assets.

Officers searched until approximately 4:45 PM but were not able to locate Lopez.  The scene was processed by detectives and forensic evidence technicians.

The Escondido Police Department is seeking the assistance from the public in locating Lopez.  Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Lopez should call the police department.  Do not try and contact or detain Lopez as he is believed to be armed and extremely dangerous.

Sergio Alejandro Lopez is a 25 year old Hispanic male.  He is approximately 5’7” tall and weighs about 130 pounds.  Lopez has black hair, brown eyes and multiple tattoos.  He was last seen wearing a flannel long sleeved shirt and dark pants.
