Case Number: 11-03726
On 03.18.11, at about 10:55 PM, the Escondido Police and Fire Communications Center received a report of a motorcyclist vs. SUV collision in the 1000 block of W. El Norte Pkwy (Vons Shopping Center).
The first officers arrived four minutes later to find a downed motorcycle (white Suzuki) and rider in the #1 westbound lane of El Norte Pkwy. The male rider had been alone on his motorcycle and he had sustained serious injury. Paramedics arrived shortly afterward and began assessment and treatment.
There was also a black Mercedes Benz M-Class SUV parked on the south curb of El Norte Pkwy- eastbound #2 lane. The adult female driver and her juvenile passenger had no complaint of pain and did not require treatment. The Mercedes sustained minor damage to the driver’s side door. The side-curtain airbags of the Mercedes deployed.
The motorcyclist was transported to a local area hospital by the responding paramedics. Physicians at the hospital pronounced the motorcyclist dead at about 11:36 PM. EPD is not releasing the name of the motorcyclist. The San Diego County Coroner’s Office will make that notification.
Based upon witness information, statements of the female driver of the Mercedes, skid, and damage to the vehicles, it appears the motorcyclist was westbound on El Norte Pkwy and in the #1 lane. The Mercedes was making a left turn from the Vons Shopping Center to eastbound El Norte Pkwy. The Mercedes turned into the path of the motorcyclist and the two vehicles collided.
