FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONTACT:  Sgt. David Cramer, 760-839-4711

On Tuesday, August 16, 2011, detectives from the Crimes of Property Unit arrested Imelda Martinez-Hernadez, 37, of Esconddio for identity theft.  Martinez-Hernandez, an illegal alien from Mexico, had been working for ABM Janitorial since 2002 by using someone else’s social security number.  The victim of the identity theft is a 12 year old female from Upland, California.  The victim’s mother was notified by the County of San Bernardino that someone was using her daughter’s social security number.  The victim’s mother filed a police report with the Upland Police Department.  Upland PD conducted an investigation and discovered the person using the social security number was working in Escondido.  Since the illegal use of someone’s identity occurred in Escondido, the Upland Police Department forwarded the case to Escondido PD for follow-up.

Escondido detectives followed up on the information provided and arrested the suspect at her place of work.  The suspect used a fake permanent alien resident card and social security card to gain employment.

The suspect was booked into the Vista Detention Facility for violation of PC 530.5(a) - Identity Theft and PC 114 – Use of False Citizenship Documents.  While at Vista Detention Facility, Immigration and Custom Enforcement issued a hold.
