The man was armed with a large metal object when he was contacted by the first officer on scene.  During the contact, one officer shot at the man striking him.  The events leading up to the officer involved shooting and the actions of the man are currently under investigation.  Officers rendered first aid until Escondido Fire Paramedics arrived on scene.

The man was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.  He is described as a white adult male subject; however, his identity is not being released at this time pending family notifications.  The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office will be investing the cause of death.
