On Saturday, August 6, 2011, the Escondido Police Department staffed several additional Traffic Officers whose focus was on motorcyclist safety. The goal was not only to enforce violations made by riders, but by drivers of other vehicles that impede cyclists. During the day, officers made 24 traffic stops, 10 which were of motorcycle riders. A total of 22 citations were written, mostly for excessive speed. One rider was cited for riding without a motorcycle license.
Funding for this operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
