FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONTACT:  Officer M.A. Garcia, 760-839-4729

Today at about 12:36 PM, the Escondido Police and Fire Departments responded to a call of a serious injury accident at Grand Avenue and Rose Street. An 84 year old male Escondido resident was driving a Chrysler Town and Country van north on Rose and turned left, or west, onto Grand Avenue. The driver made a very wide turn, jumping onto the sidewalk and crashing into the traffic control pole and then into the side of a building. Unfortunately, a young teen aged boy had been sitting astride his bike waiting to cross the street. He had been near the traffic light control pole when the van struck him.

The boy was flown by helicopter to Rady Children’s Hospital, with very serious injuries. Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Officer Michael A. Garcia, at 760.839.4729.
