On 07/16/19 at 5:06 PM, Escondido Police and Escondido Fire responded to a vehicle collision into a residence in the 1700 block of S. Maple Street, in Escondido.

Based on the driver and witness statements as well evidence at the scene, a gray 2006 Toyota Tundra was being driven by a 15-year-old unlicensed male juvenile down the driveway of the address. The vehicle was also occupied by the juveniles 17-year-old sister, who was a front seat passenger. While pulling toward the closed garage door of the residence, the male juvenile driver failed to place the vehicle into Park and then misapplied the accelerator for the vehicle brake. This caused the vehicle accelerate forward and collide into the metal garage door. The vehicle continued into the garage, forcing the garage door forward into a 36-year-old male resident who was sleeping on a bed in the garage.

The vehicle came to a final point of rest with the garage door on top of the adult male resident who had been sleeping. Escondido Fire Paramedics responded and removed the garage door from on top of the adult male. The adult male was transported to the Palomar Medical Center for severe injuries to his back. The adult male’s injuries are considered to be severe. His condition is considered stable at the time of this report. Alcohol or drugs are not considered to be a factor in this collision. Officer Tyler Songer of the Escondido Traffic Division is the investigating officer.
