FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 20, 2014
POINT OF CONTACT: Lieutenant Al Owens, 760-839-4704
On May 19, 2014 at 8:02 PM Officers responded to Riva Lane regarding a babysitter who left the residence with a two year child at 6:00 PM. The person watching the child was 35 year old Donnell Haynes. The child he was watching is his cousin. Haynes had an argument at the residence where he was watching the child and he was asked to leave. Haynes left the residence with the child. When the mother returned to the residence to pick up her child, she was told Haynes had left with the child. The mother called Escondido Police when Haynes did not return with the child and he did not call her.
There was never any concern that Haynes would harm the child. The major issue we had was that Haynes does not have a home and he had no place to care for the child. After searching for two hours, San Diego Sheriff Office Search and Rescue Team responded to assist. At 12:08 AM a citizen called Escondido Dispatch and informed them they saw Haynes and the child near Lincoln Ave and Fig St. Officers responded to the area and found Haynes and the child.
Haynes was arrested for a felony warrant and the child was reunited with his mother.
